3 min read

American Musician, Fashion and Business Mogul, Kanye West has announced his ambition to run for the President of United States come the 2020 election. The father of four took to Twitter where he revealed that he was going to be running for the Oval Office in the White house. This tweet has since gathered more than two hundred thousands retweets, more than eight hundred thousand likes, In fact there’s is a hashtag to it; #Kanye2020. It remains one of the trending topics on twitter even now.

“We must now realize the promise of America by trusting God, unifying our vision and building our future. I am running for president of the United States” 🇺🇸! #2020VISION. He wrote.

It looks like a joke, maybe one of his jokes, coupled with the fact that it is almost too late for this, his decision to run also seems almost impossible as he has missed every single state filing deadline for the two major parties and nearly all state primaries. Interestingly, this is not the first time Kanye would be making such declarations, Recall that in 2019 Kanye mentioned that he was going to run for president, but in 2024.

He made that known while speaking at Fast Company’s Innovation Festival in the United States.

“When I run for president in 2024 —” West said, to the laughter from the audience. “What y’all laughing at?” I’m not going to run, I’m going to walk,” he said.

“What they’re saying is Kanye’s crazy — one in three African Americans are in jail and all the celebrities are in jail also because they can’t say nothing because they’re so scared.”

Anything can happen, Kanye has always been a controversial person, and anything should be expected from him.

As expected, a lot of reactions has followed his intention be President of God’s own country.

A twitter user @Kingselfcomedy wrote “This is a ploy by Kanye to get Trump re-elected, Do NOT fall for it!!!! This is just to steal votes from Biden which only helps Trump”.

“The distraction of the “announcement”, not the viability of running is a futile attempt at Black voter disenchantment. Kanye is a pro-Trump horseshoe operative with issues who claimed 400 years of slavery was a choice made by the Black community”. @Brentallexpress wrote.

In May 2018, as the controversial person that he is, he made a slavery comment on twitter when he said ” When you hear about slavery for 400 years … for 400 years? That sounds like a choice. You were there for 400 years and it’s all of y’all. It’s like we’re mentally imprisoned.” during an appearance on TMZ, West responded to the controversy on Twitter stating, “Of course I know that slaves did not get shackled and put on a boat by free will. My point is for us to have stayed in that position even though the numbers were on our side means that we were mentally enslaved” and “The reason why I brought up the 400 years point is because we can’t be mentally imprisoned for another 400 years. We need free thought now. Even the statement was an example of free thought. It was just an idea”.

Kanye later apologised for the statement later on August 29, 2018, for the slavery comment during a radio interview with 107.5 WGCI Chicago. Obviously, people don’t forget these things as a lot of references are being made referring to that statement, and stating it as a reasons they’ll never support his presidential ambition. Other people also stated that he is Pro trump, and that his tweet was a means of distracting and diverting votes from John Biden to Donald Trump.

Whichever way it is, Kanye might just be catching cruise.
