Hakim Ziyech was a surprise absentee from the Chelsea squad to face Burnley, but new Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel insists he needed a break.
Ziyech started Tuchel’s first game in charge against Wolverhampton Wanderers in midweek but was left out of the squad in its entirety for Sunday’s match at Stamford Bridge.
The summer signing from Ajax has struggled to find full fitness since arriving in west London and has only started eight Premier League matches this season. And Tuchel cited fatigue and risk of injury as the reason for leaving him out against the Clarets.
Hakim has been in a bit of overload since five weeks so he has a bit of a risk of getting injured if he plays more than say 30 minutes,’ Tuchel said.
For that we decided to take a break now to go out of the risk zone. We decided this yesterday.
